Rafael Alexandre Conceição Leão (born June 10, 1999 in Almada ) is a Portuguese football player . He has been under contract with the Italian first division club AC Milan since August 2019 .
Club career
Sporting Lisbon
Leão was born to Angolan parents in Almada , in the Setúbal district . After a brief stint at Amora FC , he joined the Sporting Lisbon youth team at the age of nine. On May 21, 2017, still a junior, he made his debut for the club's reserve. He was substituted into the second half and scored the 1-1 equalizer against the second team of SC Braga .
Under coach Jorge Jesus , Leão made his debut for the first team in the Primeira Liga on February 11, 2018 after he was substituted on for Bryan Ruiz and played the last 21 minutes of the 2-0 home win against CD Feirense . On March 2, 2018, he scored the goal to equalize against FC Porto after he came on for the injured Seydou Doumbia and became the youngest goalscorer for Sporting against this club.
On June 14, 2018, Leão unilaterally terminated his contract at the Estádio José Alvalade after hooligans attacked players during training.
Lille OSC
After there had been rumors of a move to Borussia Dortmund in the meantime, Leão joined the French club OSC Lille on August 8, 2018 after a free transfer and signed a five-year contract. He scored his first goal in Ligue 1 in his second game for the club against SM Caen .
AC Milan
On August 1, 2019, Rafael Leão was signed by the Italian first division club AC Milan . He received a contract with a term until June 30, 2024.
National team
On November 10, 2017, at the age of only 18, Leão played his first international match for the Portugal U-21 national team. He played 31 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Romania in qualifying for the 2019 European Under-21 Football Championship
