Chtoura ( Arabic شتورا) is a city in the Bekaa plain in Lebanon .

It lies between the mountains of Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon at kilometer 44 on the way from Beirut to Damascus .

Chtaura is a center for banking, transportation and commerce. The closest places are Zahlé and Baalbek .

Tannayal

A few kilometers south of Chtaura on the main road is the village of Tannayal (Aramaic for the grace of God). It has been an estate of the Society of Jesus since 1860 . In addition to animal and plant production , the farm is also a teaching and research facility for the agricultural faculty of the Université Saint-Joseph .

history

In August 1962, the Arab League held a Shura (Islam) in Chtoura, the Shtura Conference . The purpose of this conference was to negotiate the conflicts that had arisen in connection with the dissolution of the United Arab Republic . The Egyptian delegation left the Shura before it had made a decision.
