The Université Saint-Joseph (USJ; German : Sankt-Joseph-Universität ) is a denominational, non-state university in Beirut that was founded by the Jesuits in 1875 . The languages of instruction are French and Arabic.
Today it is one of the most important universities in the Middle East with around 12,000 students . The university is internationally known for its university clinic, Hôtel Dieu de France , located in the Aschrafiyya district , and the Oriental Library located on the site of the former campus in the Saifi district . The USJ has a philological, engineering and theological faculty and several research centers, such as the one on Arabic Christianity ( CEDRAC ).
The Beirut Unisports Festival has been held at St. Joseph University since 2010 . So far universities from 19 countries have participated in this tournament.
