The Notre Dame University - Louaize (NDU) ( Arabic جامعة سيدة اللويزة) in Zouk Mosbeh , 15 kilometers north of Beirut , was founded by the Maronite Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1987. Since the Order was founded in 1695, there has been an emphasis on schooling and education. The first school was established in 1696. In 1978 the member of the Order, Bishop Beschara Rahi , founded the Louaize College for Higher Education. The university has several branches in the north, in the Chouf Mountains. The university is based on the American education system. There are 7000 students at the university.

Since 1994 there has been a faculty for engineering and architecture. Since 2000 the faculty has been divided into two departments.
