background
On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of their debut album Glory to the Brave , the band played a concert on July 28, 2012 in the historic open-air theater Dalhalla , which is located near the central Swedish town of Rättvik . With a playing time of two hours and 15 minutes, the musicians had played the longest appearance in the band's history. The band invited numerous guest musicians to the concert, among them Stefan Elmgren , Mikael Stanne and Jesper Strömblad , three former band members.
The band plays the song När Vindarna Viskar Mitt Namn together with the Swedish singer Roger Pontare , who represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2000 with this song . "Team Cans" appears in the songs Oh Fortuna , Glory to the Brave and One More Time . This is a choir supervised by Hammerfall singer Joacim Cans , which won the Swedish music show Körslaget . In the final song Hearts on Fire all guest musicians appear. The concert was recorded by Patric Ullaeus .

For Thomas Meyns from the online magazine Metalnews.de , Gates of Dalhalla offers a "comprehensive retrospective that impressively documents the strengths of the troupe in the stage business". Meyns awarded 5.5 out of seven points. Siegfried Samer from the Austrian online magazine Stormbringer described Gates of Dalhalla as an "indispensable must-buy for fans" and as "a wonderful introduction to the work of one of the most important bands in the genre for genre newbies". Anzo Sadoni from the German magazine Metal Hammer criticized the lack of a live atmosphere during the concert and attributed this to the approx. 15 meters distance between the stage and the audience. Since the two live CDs “will be a constant companion” to him, Sadoni awarded five out of seven points.
