Renegade ( English for: " Bandit ") is the third studio album by the Swedish power metal band Hammerfall and was released in 2000. The album is, next to the later Threshold , the only one of the band with which they jumped to the top made it to the Swedish album charts.

Emergence

According to singer Joacim Cans, the songs on the album should "just be a bit heavier, and the guitars should come across a lot fatter", which was achieved, among other things, by the fact that the band worked with Michael Wagener as a producer for the first time .

His way of working differs from that of the previous producer Fredrik Nordström, for example, in that the songs were completely recorded one after the other instead of recording the vocals completely at the end.

In-Flames guitarist and Hammerfall founding member Jesper Strömblad co-wrote some of the songs , although his influence had already declined significantly compared to the previous album and the majority has now been taken over by Cans and Dronjak. With the instrumental title Raise the Hammer , guitarist Stefan Elmgren was also involved in the authorship of a Hammerfall album for the first time.

Song info

Raise The Hammer is the band's first instrumental piece to be released on an album. In addition, Always Will Be was the first real ballad on a Hammerfall album, as the previous ballads, after Joacim Cans, “turned out to be quite heavy musically”.

Singles

Renegade was released as a single back in August and reached the top of the Swedish video charts. In April 2001 the second single Always Will Be followed , which in Europe included an additional acoustic version as well as The Fallen One from the previous album Legacy of Kings and the Judas Priest cover Breaking the law .
