Robert Weber (born November 25, 1985 in Bregenz ) is an Austrian handball player .
Career
Weber has been playing in the handball Bundesliga since 2008 , initially for HBW Balingen-Weilstetten , and from 2009 for SC Magdeburg . Before that he played in Austria for Alpla HC Hard . In the 2004/05 season he was voted "Newcomer of the Year" by the Handball League Austria in Vorarlberg . In the 2010/11 season of the Handball Bundesliga, Weber led the scorers list for more than half the season and was only pushed to second place on the last match day. After taking second place in the list of goalscorers with 242 goals in 2013/14 , he became the first SC Magdeburg player to be the top scorer in the handball Bundesliga in 2014/15 with 271 goals . He has been playing for HSG Nordhorn-Lingen since the 2019/20 season .
Weber has scored 801 goals in 183 games for the Austrian national team . He took part in the 2014 European Handball Championship . At the men's handball world championship in 2015 in Qatar , he reached the round of 16 for the first time with Austria, in which he was narrowly defeated by the hosts. With 42 goals in six games, he was the best thrower in his team. At the European handball championship 2020 he scored 35 goals in 7 games and achieved the highest of the participating Austrian national players and the fifth highest in the entire tournament with a goal rate of 73% of all throws.
Private
Robert Weber's brother Thomas is also an active handball player. The left winger currently played for Alpla HC Hard .
