Austrian handball championship 2002/03
The 42nd season of the Austrian handball championship began in August 2002 and ended in May 2003. The reigning champions of the 2001/02 season A1 Bregenz could not defend his title. The HSG Graz had to accept relegation to the handball Bundesliga .

Handball League Austria
Ten teams are represented in the top division, the HLA. The championship was divided into several phases. In the main round, all teams played a simple round trip against each opponent. After that, the league was divided into two groups.
The first eight teams played in a further round-trip round to make it into the HLA final, while the last two teams had to fight against the best four teams in the second division to stay in the league.
