The Winooski River is a 144.8 km long river in Chittenden County in the US state of Vermont .
It rises about six kilometers north of Cabot . From there it flows south and crosses the Lower Tabot Town Forest . From Marshfield, it meanders mostly along US Highway 2 in a southwesterly direction.
To the west of Plainfield at Cate Cemetery , the Kingsbury Branch joins the Winooski. From Montpelier it flows along Interstate 89 (also known as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway ). Not far from Middlesex , the Mad River joins as a left tributary . Other towns along the Winooski include Burlington , Colchester , Waterbury , North Duxbury , Bolton , Jonesville , Essex Junction , Richmond and Winooski . The Winooski flows into Lake Champlain in Malletts Bay . The catchment area is 2797 square kilometers.
