Orange County is a county in the state of Vermont in the United States . The county seat is in Chelsea .
geography
The county borders New Hampshire to the east and has an area of 1792 square kilometers, of which 8 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Caledonia County , Grafton County, New Hampshire, Windsor County , Addison County, and Washington County .

Orange County was formed in February 1781 from parts of the then-defunct Cumberland County.

- The historic Justin Smith Morrill Homestead is located in Strafford . The property of US Senator from Vermont Justin Smith Morrill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.

As of the 2000 census , the county had 28,226 people. There were 10,936 households and 7,611 families. The population density was 16 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.02% white, 0.24% African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.04% residents from the Pacific island area and 0.13% from others ethnic groups; 0.95% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.58% of the population.
Of the 10,936 households, 33.40% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 56.10% were married couples living together, 8.90% were single mothers. 30.40% were not families. 23.40% are single households and 9.20% have someone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 2.97 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.60% of residents under 18 years of age, 7.80% between 18 and 24 years of age, 28.20% between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.60% between 45 and 64 years of age 12.80% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 99.20 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 96.60 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 39,855 , and the median income for a family is $ 45,771. Males had a median income of $ 30,679 versus $ 24,144 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,784. 9.10% of the population and 6.10% of families are below the poverty line. 11.40% of them were under 18 years of age and 8.80% were 65 years of age or older.
