Windham County is a county in the US state of Vermont in the United States . The county seat is Newfane .
geography
The county is bordered by New Hampshire to the east and Massachusetts to the south and has an area of 2067 square kilometers, of which 24 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Windsor County , Sullivan County, New Hampshire, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, Franklin County, Massachusetts, and Bennington County .

Windham County was formed on February 11, 1789 from parts of the then dissolved Cumberland County.
Historical objects
In Rockingham is the historic Rockingham Meeting House . The house is on Vermont State Route 103 . The building was listed on September 10, 1979 by the National Register of Historic Places as a Historic Monument with the number 79000232. It is also listed on the National Historic Landmark .

The county had a population of 44,216 as of the 2000 census . There were 18,375 households and 11,447 families. The population density was 22 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.72% white, 0.50% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.79% Asian, 0.04% Pacific island residents and 0.32% other ethnic groups; 1.42% from two or more races. 1.11% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 18,375 households, 29.90% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 49.20% were married couples living together, 9.60% were single mothers. 37.70% were not families. 29.70% are single households and 10.20% have someone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.91 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 23.50% residents under 18 years of age, 7.10% between 18 and 24 years of age, 28.10% between 25 and 44 years of age, 27.20% between 45 and 64 years of age 14.00% were 65 years of age or over. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 95.00 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 91.80 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 38,204 , and the median income for a family is $ 46,989. Males had a median income of $ 31,094 versus $ 24,650 for females. The per capita income was $ 20,533. 9.40% of the population and 6.10% of families are below the poverty line. 12.00% of these were under 18 years of age and 7.90% were 65 years of age or older.
