Stratton is a town in Windham County in the state of Vermont in the United States with 216 inhabitants (according to the 2010 census).

Geographical location
Stratton is west of Windham County in the eastern foothills of the Green Mountains . To the north lies the Stratton Mountain Ski Resort at 1201 m high Stratton Mountain and to the south the Somerset Reservoir. State Route 10 runs through the southeastern part of the area.

history
The town was founded by Benning Wentworth as part of the New Hampshire Grants on July 30, 1761. The grant went to a group of 63 people under the leadership of Isaac Searl. Wentworth named the town Stratton. It is not known why he called her that. The first settlers came from Massachusetts . A first meeting house was built in 1809.
In the early years Stratton achieved a small boom through sheep farming in the meadows on the mountain slopes. Later, the establishment of the Stratton Mountain ski area provided the town with an economic base.
Religions
Almost 69% of the residents of Stratton do not belong to any religious community, around 20% are Catholic and around 10% are Protestants.

Sports
The Stratton Mountain Ski Resort was planned back in the late 1950s. On July 5, 1960, the Stratton Corporation was founded. The first three double-seater ski lifts opened in December 1961. After further expansion, this ski area was one of the first to be opened to snowboarders. In 1989 Victoria USA, Inc. bought the area and in 1994 it was sold to Intrawest.

The Stratton Mountain School is a college with a sports orientation for skiers and snowboarders. The classes from 7th to 12th school year are offered.
