history
Halifax is one of the oldest foundations in what is now Vermont. In contrast to many other towns that Benning Wentworth proclaimed in the New Hampshire Grants of 1750, it was populated quickly, namely from 1761, and between 1791 and 1830 was the town with the largest population in Vermont. The town was organized around 1770.
Several mills were built thanks to the good water flow of the North and Green Rivers.
Since a maximum of 1600 inhabitants in 1800, the population decreased continuously until it reached its minimum of only 268 inhabitants in 1960. Since then the number has increased continuously to the current level.
Religions
Congregational and Baptist congregations were established in Halifax . A Congregational Church was built in 1782 and a Babtist Church in 1804.
