Russell J. Waters

Russell Judson Waters (born June 6, 1843 in Halifax , Vermont , †  September 25, 1911 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1901 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1846, Russell Waters moved with his parents to Franklin County , Massachusetts , where he later attended public schools. He then completed an apprenticeship as a machinist in Shelburne Falls . He then taught at the Charlemont Center as a teacher. He also studied Latin and mathematics at the Franklin Institute . He later taught these subjects himself at this school. Since 1867 he was based in Chicago . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1868, he began to work there in his new profession. In 1886 Waters moved to Redlands , California, where he worked as a lawyer. In 1888 he was the city's legal representative. Since 1894 Waters lived in Los Angeles. There he became President of the Pasadena Consolidated Gas Co. and Treasurer of the local Chamber of Commerce. Waters went into banking, among other things, and became Vice President of Citizen's Bank . He was also involved in various other industries.

Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In the 1898 congressional election , Waters was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of California , where he succeeded Charles A. Barlow on March 4, 1899 . Since he refused to run again in 1900, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1901 . After serving in the US House of Representatives, Waters became President of Citizen's National Bank in Los Angeles. Between 1903 and 1911 he was also president of the California Cattle Co. Since 1910 he also headed the San Jacinto Water Co. He died on September 25, 1911 in Los Angeles.
