Zoe "Sue" Lofgren (* 21st December 1947 in San Mateo , California ) is an American legal scholar , a university professor , politician of the Democratic Party and since 1995 a member of the US House of Representatives for California .

biography

After attending school, she first studied political science at Stanford University , where she earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA Political Science) in 1970 . A subsequent postgraduate study of law at the Law School of Santa Clara University , she graduated in 1975 with a Juris Doctor (JD). After working as a lawyer , she was initially a lecturer from 1978 to 1980 and then from 1981 to 1994 professor of law at Santa Clara University. She was also temporarily the administrative director of Community Housing Developers and a member of the staff of longtime California Democratic Congressman Don Edwards .

In 1994 she was elected to succeed Edwards as a member of the US House of Representatives, where she has been representing her state since January 3, 1995 after ten re-elections. She was re-elected in 2016 as well. Her new term runs until January 3, 2019. Until 2013, she represented the 16th and then the 19th Congressional District of California. In 2009, Zoe Lofgren was chairman of the Committee for the standard official response ( US House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct ) of standards time ethical relevant issues committee of the House. In this role, she was in 2009 by the House of Representatives is one of the members to conduct the impeachment proceedings ( impeachment ) against Samuel B. As such, she also advocated ostracizing Vietnam for human rights violations after the arrest of dissident Nguyễn Văn Lý . She later served on the United States House Committee on House Administration, again on the Justice Committee and the Science, Space and Technology Committee.
