James A. Louttit

James Alexander Louttit (born October 16, 1848 in New Orleans , Louisiana , † July 26, 1906 in Pacific Grove , California ) was an American politician . Between 1885 and 1887 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

As a toddler, James Louttit came with his parents to Calaveras County , California in 1849 , where he later attended public and private schools. He then graduated from the State Normal School in Sacramento . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1869, he began to work in this profession from 1871 in Stockton . From 1871 to 1879 he was also a prosecutor in Stockton. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

In the congressional election of 1884 Louttit was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of California , where he succeeded James Budd on March 4, 1885 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1886, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1887 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, James Louttit practiced as a lawyer in Stockton again. He died on July 26, 1906 in Pacific Grove and was buried in Stockton.
