Mae Nolan

Mae Ella Nolan (born September 20, 1886 in San Francisco , California , †  July 9, 1973 in Sacramento , California) was an American politician . Between 1923 and 1925 she represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Mae Nolan attended her home public schools as well as St. Vincent's Convent and the Ayres Business College of San Francisco . She married the future Congressman John I. Nolan and became a member of the Republican Party like him .

After the death of her husband, who died as a member of parliament, she was elected as its successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when the by-election was due for the fifth seat of California , where she took up her new mandate on January 23, 1923. Since she had also been elected for the following legislative period, she could remain in Congress until March 3, 1925 . At the time of her election, she was only the fourth woman to enter Congress. Before her, only Jeannette Rankin from Montana , Alice Mary Robertson from Oklahoma and Winnifred Sprague Mason Huck from Illinois had been elected to this body.

After her time in the US House of Representatives, Mae Nolan withdrew from politics. In her later years, she moved to Sacramento, where she died on July 9, 1973.
