Career
Patrick Martin attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1947 the Riverside Junior College in California. This was followed by studies at the University of California at Berkeley until 1949 . He previously served in the US Coast Guard from 1943 to 1945 during World War II . After studying law at Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco and being admitted to the bar in 1953, he began working in this profession in Riverside . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party .
In the 1962 congressional elections , Martin was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the then newly established 38th constituency of California , where he took up his new mandate on January 3, 1963. Since he was defeated by the Democrat John V. Tunney in 1964 , he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1965 . This was shaped by the events of the civil rights movement and the beginning of the Vietnam War . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Patrick Martin practiced as a lawyer again. He died in Long Beach on July 18, 1968 and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery , Virginia .
