Charles Pashayan Jr. (born March 27, 1941 in Fresno , California ) is an American politician . Between 1979 and 1991 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Pashayan attended Bullard High School until 1959 and then studied at Pomona College in Claremont until 1963 . Between 1968 and 1970 he was a captain in the US Army at the time of the Vietnam War . After studying law at Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco , he was admitted to the bar in 1969. From 1973 to 1975 he worked for the Federal Ministry for Health, Education and Welfare . In 1977 he supplemented his own training with a degree at the University of Oxford in England .

Politically, Pashayan joined the Republican Party . In the 1978 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 17th  electoral district of California , where he succeeded John Hans Krebs on January 3, 1979 , whom he won with 54 percent of the vote had beaten. After five re-elections, he was able to complete six legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1991 . In 1990 Pashayan was defeated by Democrat Cal Dooley . After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, he no longer appeared politically. Today he lives in his native city of Fresno.
