Bobbi Fiedler (born April 22, 1937 in Santa Monica , California - † March 3, 2019 ) was an American politician . Between 1981 and 1987 she represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Roberta Frances Horowitz, her maiden name, attended the public schools in her home country and then between 1955 and 1957 the Santa Monica Technical School . Between 1955 and 1959 she graduated from Santa Monica City College . Then she worked as a businesswoman. At the same time, she embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . She campaigned against racial segregation in public transport systems such as buses. Between 1977 and 1980 she served on the Education Committee for the City of Los Angeles . She was also a delegate from 1977 to 1987 at all Republican party conventions in California. In 1980 and 1984 she also took part in the Republican National Conventions , at which Ronald Reagan was each nominated as a presidential candidate.

In the 1980 congressional election , Fiedler was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 21st  constituency of California , where she succeeded Democrat James C. Corman on January 3, 1981 . After two re-elections, she was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1987 . In 1986 she renounced another candidacy. Instead, she unsuccessfully sought her party's nomination for the US Senate elections . Their failure was also linked to a corruption affair that hit the headlines in early 1986. She was accused of bribing an opposing candidate with $ 100,000 in order to waive his candidacy. However, a judge rejected the accusation and there was no trial.

Nonetheless, the matter led Bobbi Fiedler to political sideline. In the Senate primary elections in 1986, she received only 7.2% of the vote in her party. After that it no longer appeared politically. Most recently she lived in Northridge .
