Walter Capps

Walter Holden Capps (born May 5, 1934 in Omaha , Nebraska , †  October 28, 1997 in Reston , Virginia ) was an American politician . In 1997 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Walter Capps attended Portland State University in Oregon until 1958 and then the Augustana Theological Seminary in Illinois until 1960 . After a few more courses at various universities, he taught theology at the University of California in Santa Barbara between 1964 and 1996 . At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1996 congressional elections , Capps was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 22nd  constituency of California , where he succeeded Andrea Seastrand on January 3, 1997 and held his mandate until his death on October 28 Year exercised. Capps died in a hospital in Reston after a heart attack at Washington Dulles International Airport . His mandate fell to his widow Lois Capps after a special election .
