William F. Englebright

William F. Englebright

William Fellows Englebright (born November 23, 1855 in New Bedford , Massachusetts , †  February 10, 1915 in Oakland , California ) was an American politician . Between 1906 and 1911 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In his youth, William Englebright moved with his parents to Vallejo , California, where he attended public and private schools. He later worked as a carpenter at the Mare Island naval shipyard . He then settled in Nevada City , where he worked as a mining engineer. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In Nevada City he was on the school board.

After the resignation of MP James Gillett , Englebright was elected in the first constituency of California as his successor in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on November 6, 1906. After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1911 . In 1910 it was not confirmed. After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Englebright worked again as a mining engineer. He died in Oakland on February 10, 1915 and was buried in Nevada City. His son Harry (1884-1943) was also a member of Congress.
