Anna G. Eshoo (born December 13, 1942 in New Britain , Connecticut ) is an American politician who has represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives since 1993 .

Life

Anna Georges, as she was born, worked for the Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa) between 1963 and 1966 and for the Arcata National Corporation from 1966 to 1970 . She then attended Cañada College in Redwood City (California) until 1975 . At the same time she began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1980 and 1992 she was a member of the Democratic National Committee . She was Assistant to the President of the California State Assembly in 1981 and 1982 . She served on the San Mateo County County Council from 1983 to 1992 ; in 1986 she was its president. In 1982 she was appointed to the Federal Commission for the Determination of Democratic Presidential Candidates ( Democratic National Commission on Presidential Nominations ).

In 1988 Anna Eshoo ran unsuccessfully for Congress . In the 1992 congressional elections , however, she was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 14th  constituency of California , where she succeeded John Doolittle on January 3, 1993 . After twelve re-elections so far, she can still exercise her mandate in Congress today. Her new term runs until January 3, 2019 with an option for a further candidacy in 2018. There she is or was a member of the Committee on Energy and Trade and the Subcommittee on Communication and Technology. Since 2013 she has represented the 18th congressional electoral district in her state.

Anna Eshoo was married to lawyer George Eshoo until her divorce. This marriage resulted in two children. She lives privately in Atherton . She is a member of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
