Walter Franklin Lineberger (born July 20, 1883 in Whiteville , Hardeman County , Tennessee , †  October 9, 1943 in Santa Barbara , California ) was an American politician . Between 1921 and 1927 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Walter Lineberger attended the public schools in his home country and then the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy ( New York ). He later worked in Mexico in mining and agriculture. From 1911 he lived in Long Beach , California , where he worked as a farmer and banker. He became president of Guarantee Bond & Mortage Co. He also served in the US Army . Politically, he joined the Republican Party .

In the 1920 congressional election , Republican candidate Charles F. Van de Water was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of California . Since he was fatally injured in a car accident before the beginning of the legislative period, a by-election was necessary, which Lineberger won. After two re-elections he could remain in Congress between April 11, 1921 and March 3, 1927 . In 1926 he declined to run again. Instead, he ran unsuccessfully for his party's nomination for the US Senate elections . Then he withdrew from politics. He died on October 9, 1943 in Santa Barbara, where he was also buried.
