Anthony Caminetti (born July 30, 1854 in Jackson , Amador County , California , †  November 17, 1923 there ) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1895 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Anthony Caminetti attended public schools in his home country and in San Francisco . He then studied at the University of California at Berkeley . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1877, he began to work in Jackson in this profession. Between 1878 and 1882 he was a district attorney in Amador County. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1883 and 1885 he was a member of the California State Assembly ; from 1885 to 1887 he was a member of the State Senate .

In the congressional election of 1890 Caminetti was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of California , where he succeeded Marion Biggs on March 4, 1891 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1895 . In 1894 he was not re-elected. In July 1896, Caminetti was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago , where William Jennings Bryan was first nominated as a presidential candidate. From 1896 to 1900 he was again a member of the State Assembly . From 1897 to 1899 he acted as State Commissioner for Law Reform ( Code Commissioner ). Afterwards he belonged again to the State Senate between 1907 and 1913.

From 1913 to 1921, Caminetti worked for the Federal Immigration Service. In 1917, after the United States entered World War I, he was appointed to the commission that dealt with wartime industrial production. After the war he traveled to Europe to get an idea of ​​the conditions there. Otherwise he practiced as a lawyer in Jackson again. He died there on November 17, 1923.
