Christopher Cox

Charles Christopher Cox (born October 16, 1952 in Saint Paul , Minnesota ) is an American politician . Between 1989 and 2005 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Christopher Cox attended the public schools in his home country until 1970 and then studied at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles until 1973 . This was followed by studies at Harvard Business School until 1977 . At the same time he graduated from Harvard University with a law degree. After his admission to the bar he was legal assistant to federal judge Herbert Choy in 1977 and 1978 . He also practiced as a private lawyer. In 1982 and 1983 he lectured at Harvard on economic issues. He was also a co-founder of Context Corp. in Saint Paul. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . From 1986 to 1988 he was a member of the Advisory Board to President Ronald Reagan .

In the 1988 congressional elections , Cox was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 40th  constituency of California , where he succeeded Robert Badham on January 3, 1989 . After eight re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his resignation on August 2, 2005 . From 1993 to 2003 he represented the newly established 47th district of his state, from 2003 the 48th electoral district. From 1997 to 2001, Cox Chairman of the Select Committee on US National Security and Military / Commercial Concerns with the People's Republic of China , which deals with relations with the People's Republic of China addressed. He then headed the Homeland Security Committee. During his time as a congressman, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan fell .

After serving in the US House of Representatives, Christopher Cox served as Chairman of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from 2005 to 2009, succeeding William H. Donaldson . Since 2009 he has been practicing again as a lawyer in a large law firm.
