John D. Fredericks
John Donnan Fredericks (born September 10, 1869 in Burgettstown , Washington County , Pennsylvania , † August 26, 1945 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American politician . Between 1923 and 1927 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .
Career
John Fredericks attended public schools in his home country and then Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania. After completing a law degree and being admitted to the bar in 1896, he began to work in this profession in Los Angeles. During the Spanish-American War of 1898 he was an adjutant in an infantry unit from California. From 1903 to 1915, Fredericks served as the district attorney in Los Angeles County . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1915 he ran unsuccessfully for governor of California .
After the death of MP Henry Z. Osborne , Fredericks was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the by-election due for the tenth seat of California , where he took up his new mandate on May 1, 1923. After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1927 . In 1926, Fredericks declined to run again. After his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced again as a lawyer in Los Angeles, where he died on August 26, 1945.
