Peter Rey "Pete" Aguilar (born June 19, 1979 in Fontana , California ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . He has represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives since 2015 .

Career

Pete Aguilar studied political and business administration at the University of Redlands in California until 2001 . He initially worked as a private businessman and then embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 2001, he became the regional director of the Inland Empire Office . From 2006 to 2014 he belonged to the City Council of Redlands in San Bernardino County to. Between 2010 and 2014 he was also mayor of this city.

In the congressional elections of 2014, Aguilar 31, was  electoral district of California in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC chosen, where he succeeded the on January 3rd 2015 Republican Gary Miller took that in for 16 years Congress had not a candidate . He won with 52:48 percent of the vote against Paul Chabot and was next to Gwen Graham and Brad Ashford one of only three Democrats who could win a seat previously held by the Republicans this year. Since he was confirmed in office in 2016 and 2018, he is still a member of the Congress to this day. His new legislative term runs until January 3, 2021 with the option of a further candidacy in 2020.
