Emerson is a community (with a status of " Village ") in Dixon , Dakota and Thurston Counties in the US state of Nebraska . In 2010 , Emerson had 840 residents, which decreased to 827 by 2013.

Emerson is located in northeast Nebraska, around 35 km west of the Missouri River , which forms the border with Iowa . The intersection of the three states of Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota is about 40 km north-northwest. Minnesota's southern border runs around 160 km north.

The place was created in 1881 as Kenesaw Junction at a now defunct railroad crossing of the then Omaha Road and was renamed a little later after the writer Ralph Waldo Emerson . In 1888 the settlement was incorporated as an independent municipality.
