Henry Stanley Benedict (born February 20, 1878 in Boonville , Cooper County , Missouri , †  July 10, 1930 in London , England ) was an American politician . In 1916 and 1917 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1888, Henry Benedict came to Los Angeles , California with his parents , where he attended public schools. After studying law at the University of Southern California there and being admitted to the bar in 1910, he began to work in this profession in Los Angeles. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1910 and 1914 he was a member of the California State Assembly ; from 1914 to 1916 he was a member of the State Senate .

After the resignation of MP William Stephens , Benedict was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on November 7, 1916 when the by-election was due for the tenth seat of California . For the regular congressional elections of 1916 he was nominated for re-election as a candidate for the Progressive Party . Benedict declined this nomination in favor of Republican Henry Z. Osborne . This meant that he could only end the current legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1917 .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Henry Benedict worked again as a lawyer. He also got into the banking industry. From 1919 to 1921 he worked for the California Treasury Department; from 1921 to 1923 he was a member of the railway committee of his state. Then he practiced again as a lawyer. He died on July 10, 1930 during a visit to the British capital, London, and was buried in Glendale .
