Donald H. Clausen
Donald Holst Clausen (born April 27, 1923 in Ferndale , Humboldt County , California - † February 7, 2015 in Fortuna , California) was an American politician . Between 1963 and 1983 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Donald Clausen attended public schools in his home country. He then studied at San José State University and California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo . Later he continued his education at Weber College in Ogden ( Utah ) and at Saint Mary's College of California continued. He also completed a training program in the US Navy . In 1944 and 1945 he was a cargo pilot in Asia during the final phase of the Second World War . He then worked in the insurance industry. He also founded an air rescue company. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1955 and 1962 he was a member of the Del Norte County County Council .
After Clement Woodnutt Miller's accidental death , Clausen was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when he was due for the by-election for the first seat of California , where he took up his new mandate on January 22, 1963. After nine re-elections, he could remain in Congress until January 3, 1983 . Since 1975 he represented there as the successor to Harold T. Johnson the second constituency of his state. During his time as a congressman, the Vietnam War and the Watergate affair as well as the final phase of the civil rights movement fell . In 1982, Donald Clausen was not re-confirmed.
After his time in the US House of Representatives, he worked for the Federal Aviation Administration between 1983 and 1990 . He spent his old age in Santa Rosa .
