James F. Lloyd (1977)

James Frederick Lloyd (born September 27, 1922 in Helena , Montana , †  February 2, 2012 in Pensacola , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1975 and 1981 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Lloyd attended public schools in Washington , California, and Oregon . Between 1940 and 1942 he studied at the University of Oregon . He then served in the US Navy as a naval aviator during World War II . He remained in the Navy until 1963. During this time he studied at Stanford University in 1958 and then at the University of Southern California until 1966 . In the following years he worked in advertising, among other things. Between 1970 and 1973 he taught political science at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . From 1968 to 1972 he was a member of the California state executive committee of his party. Between 1968 and 1975 he was a local councilor in West Covina , where he also served as mayor in 1973 and 1974.

In the 1974 congressional election , Lloyd was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 35th constituency of California , where he succeeded Glenn M. Anderson on January 3, 1975 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1981 . In 1980 he was defeated by Republican David Dreier . After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, James Lloyd no longer appeared politically. He died on February 2, 2012 in a car accident that resulted from a stroke in Pensacola.
