Everett G. Burkhalter

Everett Glen Burkhalter (born January 19, 1897 in Heber Springs , Cleburne County , Arkansas , †  May 24, 1975 in Duarte , California ) was an American politician . Between 1963 and 1965 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Everett Burkhalter attended public schools in Arkansas, Indiana , Colorado, and California. He then worked as an electrician and lighting technician for the film industry. In the final phase of the First World War he served in the US Navy in 1918 and 1919 , of which he was a member of the reserve until 1921. Politically, Burkhalter joined the Democratic Party . Between 1942 and 1952 he was a member of the California State Assembly . He was also a board member of the California section of the American Legion veterans organization . From 1952 to 1962 he was a member of the Los Angeles City Council .

In the 1962 congressional election , Burkhalter was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 27th  constituency of California , where he succeeded Harry R. Sheppard on January 3, 1963 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1964, he could only complete one term in Congress until January 3, 1965 . During this time the Vietnam War began . After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Everett Burkhalter retired, which he spent in North Hollywood . He died on May 24, 1975 in Duarte and was buried in Los Angeles .
