Gary Gene Miller (born October 16, 1948 in Huntsville , Madison County , Arkansas ) is an American politician . From 1999 to 2015 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Gary Miller attended California High School in Whittier and Lowell High School in La Habra . He then graduated from Mount San Antonio College in Walnut . In 1967 he served in the US Army for a few months . After that he worked as a private businessman in the real estate industry. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1989 Miller was elected to Diamond Bar City Council; In 1992 he became mayor of this place. From 1995 to 1999 he was a member of the California State Assembly .

In the 1998 congressional election , Miller was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 41st  constituency of California , where he succeeded Jay Kim on January 3, 1999 . After six re-elections, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until January 3, 2015; in 2014 he decided not to run again. From 2003 he represented there as the successor of Joe Baca the 42nd district of his state. Miller has served on the Finance Committee, the Transport and Infrastructure Committee, and five sub-committees. He chaired the Building a Better America Caucus and was also the Republican Study Committee , as well as that of the tea party movement related Tea Party Caucus on. During his tenure as Congressman, Gary Miller was suspected of engaging in illegal business practices on several occasions. Investigations have been initiated but no charges have been brought.
