The diocese of Maillezais ( lat. : Dioecesis Malleacensis ) was one in France situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Maillezais .

history

The diocese Maillezais was on July 11, 1317 by Pope John XXII. Erected with the papal bull Salvator noster from cession of territory of the diocese of Poitiers . Cathedral became the abbey church of the Benedictine abbey Maillezais . The first bishop was Geoffroy Pouvreau . The diocese Maillezais was subordinate to the archbishopric of Bordeaux as a suffragan .

On May 4, 1648, the diocese of Maillezais was renamed by Pope Innocent X with the papal bull In supereminenti to the diocese of La Rochelle and the bishopric moved.
