Maillezais is a French commune with 939 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vendée department in the Pays de la Loire region .
location
The place is about ten kilometers southeast of Fontenay-le-Comte and about 25 kilometers west of Niort on the banks of the Jeune Autise .
history
The village developed in close proximity and together with the Benedictine Abbey of Maillezais .
