La Bretonnière-la-Claye is a French municipality with 575 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Vendée in the region of Pays de la Loire . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Fontenay-le-Comte and the canton of Mareuil-sur-Lay-Dissais . The inhabitants are called Bretons or Clayois .
geography
La Bretonnière-la-Claye is located about 20 kilometers south-southeast of La Roche-sur-Yon . The Lay limits the community in the west and northwest, into which the Yon flows here in the northwest . La Bretonnière-la-Claye is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Couture in the north, Péault in the north and northeast, Les Magnils-Reigniers in the east, Chasnais in the southeast, Lairoux in the south, Curzon and Saint-Cyr-en-Talmondais in the southwest, Saint -Vincent-sur-Graon and Le Champ-Saint-Père to the west and north-west and Rosnay to the north-west.

In 2000, the previously independent municipalities of La Bretonnière and La Claye were combined to form today's municipality.
