Saint-Maurice-le-Girard is a commune in the Vendée in the region of Pays de la Loire . It belongs to the canton of La Châtaigneraie in the arrondissement of Fontenay-le-Comte . It is bordered by Mouilleron-en-Pareds to the north-west, Cheffois to the north-east, La Tardière to the north-east, La Châtaigneraie to the east, Antigny to the south-east, Saint-Sulpice-en-Pareds and Thouarsais-Bouildroux to the south-west to Bazoges-en-Pareds . The inhabitants call themselves Girardiens . During the revolution the community was called "Vaugirard".
