The municipality was created on January 1, 2016 as Commune nouvelle from the merger of the municipalities of Doix and Fontaines .

Doix lès Fontaines is located about four kilometers south of the city center of Fontenay-le-Comte in the Marais Poitevin . Doix lès Fontaines is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Fontenay-le-Comte in the north, Saint-Martin-de-Fraigneau in the northeast, Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux in the east, Maillezais in the east and southeast, Maillé in the south and southeast, Vix in the South and southwest, Montreuil in the west and Chaix in the northwest.

The A83 autoroute runs along the northern edge of the municipality .
