Diacritical accent

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A diacritical accent is used in various languages to distinguish two words that are otherwise spelled in the same way. This accent has no meaning in pronunciation. It occurs in the following languages:

  • Spanish : Always as acute here
  • Catalan : Depending on the pronunciation of the vowel as an acute or a grave accent . Compound words also retain the diacritical accent here, although confusion is no longer possible, e.g. B. Adéu.
  • Asturian : Always as acute.
  • Galician : Always as acute.
