Andrew Jackson Hinshaw (born August 4, 1923 in Dexter , Stoddard County , Missouri , † January 21, 2016 ) was an American politician . Between 1973 and 1977 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Andrew Hinshaw attended public schools in Michigan and Los Angeles . During World War II , he served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1945 . He then studied at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles until 1950 . There he also studied law. Between 1965 and 1972 he was an assessor in the Orange County Administration . He also held this position for several years in Los Angeles County . He also served on the California State Board of Equalization for ten years . Politically, Hinshaw joined the Republican Party . In 1972 he was a delegate to their regional party convention in California.

In the 1972 congressional elections , Hinshaw was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the then newly established 39th  constituency of California , where he took up his new mandate on January 3, 1973. After a re-election, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1977 . Since 1975 he represented there as the successor of Bob Wilson the 40th district of his state. During his time as a congressman, the end of the Vietnam War and the Watergate affair fell among other things .

In 1976, Hinshaw was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. It was around this time that allegations of corruption were raised against him from his time as an assessor in Orange County. In 1977 he was charged and convicted for this. He spent a year in prison. Between 1980 and 1983 he ran a company that did business research and in 1984 and 1985 he was a director of the World Computer Graphics Association . He then headed a company that created graphics. He spent his old age in Mission Viejo .
