Doug LaMalfa (born July 2, 1960 in Oroville , California ) is an American politician . He has represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives since 2013 .

Career

Doug LaMalfa attended Butte College in his hometown of Oroville until 1980 . He then studied at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo until 1982 . He later became the manager of the family's rice plantation and a director of the California Rice Commission . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 2002 and 2008 he was a member of the California State Assembly ; From 2010 to 2012 he was a member of the State Senate , where he sat on nine committees.

In the 2012 congressional election , LaMalfa was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of California , where he succeeded Mike Thompson on January 3, 2013 . He beat the Democrat Jim Reed with 58% to 42% of the vote. Previously, the no longer candidate Wally Herger had represented this area. After three re-elections in 2014, 2016 and 2018, he can still hold office today. His new legislative term runs until January 3, 2021 with the option of a further candidacy in 2020.
