David Valadao (2013)

David Valadao (* 14. April 1977 in Hanford , California ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . He has represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives since 2013 . After his defeat in the 2018 election, he will leave Congress in January 2019.

Career

David Valadao attended Hanford High School until 1995 . Between 1996 and 1998 he graduated from the College of the Sequoias . Since then he has worked in agriculture, especially in milk production. He was the managing director of a dairy company that he ran with his brothers. He was also a member of the California Milk Advisory Board and several other dairy industry associations.

Between 2010 and 2012, Valadao was a member of the California State Assembly where he served on the Agriculture Committee, the Budget Committee, and the Trade Committee.

In the 2012 election , Valadao was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 21st  Congressional constituency of California , where he succeeded Devin Nunes , who moved to the restructured 22nd district, on January 3, 2013 . Valadao won the election with 59.9 percent of the vote against Democrat John Hernandez. After two re-elections in 2014 and 2016, he was defeated by Democrat TJ Cox in the 2018 election by just under 900 votes. The election result was only known after four weeks of counting, after Valadao was still ahead with 5000 votes on election evening. He is leaving the Congress on January 3, 2019.

David Valadao is married and has three children. The family lives in Hanford.
