Julia Brownley

Julia Brownley (born August 28, 1952 in Aiken , South Carolina ) is an American politician with the Democratic Party . Since 2013 she represents the 26th congressional district of the State of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Julia Brownley studied political science at George Washington University until 1975 . She then attended American University , also in Washington, DC, until 1979. She then worked for various companies in the marketing sector. At the same time she embarked on a political career in California. Between 1994 and 2006 she served on the Santa Monica City School Board ; from 2006 to 2012 she was a member of the California State Assembly . There she was a member of six committees.

In the 2012 election , Brownley was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the 26th Congressional district of California, where she succeeded David Dreier on January 3, 2013 . In the election she received 52.7 percent of the vote. Their Republican rival Tony Strickland accounted for 47.3 percent. In Congress, she became a member of the Veterans Committee and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. She also sits or sat on a total of five sub-committees. In 2014 she was re-elected by just under, in 2016 with a lead of over 20 percent. In the 2018 election she will meet actor Antonio Sabato junior , who is running as a Republican candidate. Brownley is a clear favorite.

After two re-elections so far in 2014 and 2016, she can continue to exercise her office today. Your new legislative period runs until January 3, 2019 with the option of a further candidacy in 2018.

Julia Brownley has two grown children and lives privately in Oak Park .
