TJ Cox
Terrance John "TJ" Cox (born July 18, 1963 in Walnut Creek , California ) is an American politician . Since January 3, 2019, he has represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Cox, who was born the son of a Chinese and a Filipino woman in Walnut Creek in the US state of California, grew up there too. His father taught chemical engineering . Cox graduated from the Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering , which is part of the University of Nevada, Reno , with a bachelor's degree in 1986 . He later received a Masters of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University . After graduating, he founded two nut processing companies and was the manager of an urban development company.
Cox became a member of the Democratic Party and stood for the first time in 2006 for election to the US House of Representatives, where he, at that time still running for the 19th district, was defeated by Republican George Radanovich . In the 2018 congressional elections , Cox was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington DC, California's 21st constituency, just under 900 votes ahead of Republican David Valadao . The election result was only known after four weeks of counting, after Valadao was still ahead with 5000 votes on election evening. He took up his new position on January 3, 2019.
Private
Cox is married to the pediatrician Kathleen Murphy. They live in Fresno and are the parents of four children.
