Carlos Moorhead

Carlos John Moorhead (born May 6, 1922 in Long Beach , California - †  November 23, 2011 in La Cañada Flintridge , California) was an American politician . Between 1973 and 1997 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Carlos Moorhead attended Glendale public schools . He then studied until 1943 at the University of California in Los Angeles . During the Second World War he served in the US Army until 1945 , where he made it to lieutenant colonel. After a subsequent law degree at the University of Southern California and his admission as a lawyer in 1949, he began to work in Glendale in this profession. In 1973 he was also admitted to the United States Supreme Court in this capacity . Moorhead was also a member of the California State Law Revision Commission. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1967 and 1972 he was a member of the California State Assembly .

In the 1972 congressional election , Moorhead was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 20th  constituency of California , where he succeeded H. Allen Smith on January 3, 1973 . After eleven re-elections, he was able to complete twelve legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1997 . Between 1975 and 1993 he represented the 22nd and then the 27th district of his state there. Early on in his time as a member of Congress, political life in the United States was overshadowed by the Watergate affair . From 1995 to 1997, Moorhead was Chairman of the Judiciary Committee .

In 1996 he renounced another candidacy. After his time in the US House of Representatives, Carlos Moorhead withdrew from politics. He suffered from Alzheimer's disease and died on November 23, 2011.
