Mark Allan Takano (born December 10, 1960 in Riverside , California ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . Since January 3, 2013, he has represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Life

Mark Takano studied teaching at Harvard University , where he graduated in 1983. After his studies he worked as a teacher; he has been teaching for over 23 years. From 1990 to 2012 he was a member of the Board of Trustees at Riverside Community College , as whose president he also served intermittently. In 1992 and 1998, he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the United States House of Representatives.

November 6, 2012 succeeded but then, as MP for the 41st congressional district of California in Congress collect; he won with 59:41 percent of the vote against the Republican politician John Tavaglione and thus succeeded Jerry Lewis . After two re-elections so far in 2014 and 2016, he can continue to exercise his office today. His new legislative term runs until January 3, 2019 with the option of a further candidacy in 2018.

Takano, who is openly homosexual, lives privately in Riverside.
