Juanita Millender-McDonald (born September 7, 1938 in Birmingham , Alabama , † April 22, 2007 in Carson , California ) was an American politician who was a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1996 until her death . She represented the 37th District of California and was a member of the Democratic Party .

Millender-McDonald studied at the University of Redlands , California State University, Los Angeles, and the University of Southern California . She was a teacher and a member of the Carson City Council and a member of the California State Assembly before joining Congress .

Juanita Millender-McDonald died of cancer.
