Adam Schiff

Adam Bennett Schiff (born June 22, 1960 in Framingham , Massachusetts ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . As a member of the House of Representatives , he represented the 29th from 2001 and the 28th congressional electoral district of the state of California since 2013 .

Life

After studying at Stanford and Harvard Universities , he worked as a lawyer. From 1996 to 2001 he was a member of the California Senate . In the 2000 election to the United States House of Representatives , he defeated Republican mandateer James E. Rogan and entered Congress on January 3, 2001 . Since then he has been confirmed in the elections that follow every two years, often without serious opponents. Its current term in the 116th United States Congress runs until January 3, 2021.

Schiff is a member of the Justice Committee and the Approval Committee . He is also a member of the inner-party Blue Dog Coalition . As a ranking member , i.e. the highest-ranking member of his party, in the secret service committee , Schiff played an important role in investigating possible contacts between Donald Trump's election campaign team and Russian agencies that influenced the 2016 election campaign . After the Democrats won the mid-term election in November 2018 , Schiff took over the chairmanship of the intelligence committee, leading the investigation against Russia and Trump. In September 2019, he accused the acting DNI of withholding an important whistleblower from the committee . As chairman of the intelligence committee, Schiff also led much of the investigation into impeachment proceedings against Trump over the Ukraine affair . The House of Representatives later elected him as the lead manager for the impeachment process. As such, it was his job to present the arguments for impeachment to the Senate .

Schiff is of Jewish faith. He is married and has two children.
