Walter William "Wally" Herger (* 20th May 1945 in Yuba City , California ) is an American politician of the Republican . Between 1987 and 2013 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Wally Herger attended East Nicolaus High School and then studied at California State University in Sacramento . After that he worked as a rancher. He was also a businessman in the oil and gas industry. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party. Between 1980 and 1986 he was a member of the California State Assembly .

In the 1986 congressional elections , Herger was elected to the US House of Representatives in the second constituency of California, where he succeeded Eugene A. Chappie on January 3, 1987 . He was re-elected twelve times, most recently in 2010 with 57.15 percent of the vote. In 2012 he decided not to run again and was eliminated from the on January 3, 2013 Congress of. Herger was a member of the Committee on Ways and Means and two of its sub-committees. He also belonged to the the tea party movement related Tea Party Caucus on.
